Seminole Sunday Sauce — Feb. 15, 2026: FSU Baseball Clinches First Series of Season

Florida State baseball will close the weekend in search of a series sweep. The Seminoles clinched their first series victory of the season with wins over James Madison on Friday and Saturday.

FSU was fueled by five shutout innings on the mound from Wes Mendes in the season opener on Friday — a 5-1 win. Solo home runs from Myles Bailey and Brody DeLamielleure gave FSU an early 2-0 lead, but in the sixth, the Dukes cut that lead in half.

The Seminoles were able to create some breathing room with three runs in the eighth. After a balk made it 3-1, Noah Sheffield followed with a pinch-hit 2-run single to cap the scoring. Bailey and DeLamielleure each finished with two hits in the win.

On Saturday, FSU needed just seven innings to roll to a 16-5 run-rule victory. As a team, FSU finished with 17 hits.

A 2-run double by Ike Schmidly gave James Madison a 3-2 lead in the top of the inning, but in the bottom of the frame, Brayden Dowd put the Seminoles ahead for good with a 3-run home run. DeLamielleure homered for the second straight day.

Bailey and Sheffield continued to swing hot bats for the Seminoles. Bailey finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Sheffield was 3-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Dowd was 3-for-3 and scored five times.

On the mound, four different pitchers worked. Cooper Whited threw two scoreless innings of relief. Cade O’Leary earned his first FSU win.

The 12th-ranked Seminoles will go for the sweep on Sunday before hitting the road for the first time on Tuesday in Jacksonville. FSU will be in Texas next weekend for three games in three days.
