Notable Seminole Birthday: 2-Time All-ACC Outfielder Jack Rye Turns 40
Born March 8, 1986, former Florida State baseball All-American outfielder Jack Rye celebrates his 40th birthday today!
A native of California, Jack Rye spent four seasons as a member of the Florida State baseball program. A member of the team from 2005 to 2008, Rye helped FSU make one trip to the College World Series. Over his four seasons, Rye never hit lower than .328.
As a freshman in 2005, Rye hit .328 with two homers and 31 RBIs and was recognized as an ACC All-Tournament selection. After hitting .339 with 12 home runs and 46 RBIs as a sophomore in 2006, Rye was a first-team All-ACC selection in each of his final two seasons in Tallahassee.
Rye hit .372 with 10 home runs and a career-high 61 RBIs in 2007 before capping his career in 2008 by batting .371 with seven home runs, 52 RBIs and 12 stolen bases. In the process, Rye helped FSU reach the College World Series for the first time in eight years and was recognized as a first-team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association.
Selected in the 13th round of the 2011 MLB Draft by the New York Yankees, Rye spent four seasons in the organization, reaching as high as Double-A. Rye ranks fifth in FSU history with 244 starts and 312 hits.
