Seminole Sunday Sauce — March 22, 2026: FSU Softball’s Torres Sets NCAA Record for Hits in Consecutive ABs

Over the last month, Florida State softball has been a difficult team to beat. At the top of the order, shortstop Isa Torres has been just as difficult to get out.

In Friday’s 12-2 win over California, Torres finished 3-for-3 and set an NCAA record by recording hits in 14 straight at-bats. That streak would reach 16 before coming to an end on Saturday.

Torres’ streak hit double digits last Sunday as the Seminoles completed the 3-game sweep of Syracuse to open ACC play, 11-6. In the contest, Torres wen 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored. Jaysoni Beachum, Shelby McKenzie and Ashtyn Danley all homered in the victory. Danley’s first-inning blast was a grand slam while Beachum finished with five RBIs.

On Friday night, Torres singled in the first inning, doubled in the second and tripled in the fourth. She not only set an NCAA record for consecutive at-bats with a hit but broke Maddie O’Brien’s FSU record for consecutive at-bats reaching base safely.

In addition to Torres’ big night, McKenzie homered twice and finished with five RBIs. Danley also homered and finished with three RBIs as FSU put away the Golden Bears in just five innings.

In another 5-inning win over California on Saturday, Torres opened with a double before adding an RBI infield single later in the first inning. Her streak ultimately ended in the fourth when she reached on an error. Torres reaching base in 23 straight plate appearances was the third-longest streak in NCAA history.

As for the game itself, FSU rolled to a 9-0 win. Bella Dimitrijevic and Makenna Reid combined to hold Cal to just three hits while fanning six in the circle. Torres, McKenzie and Bella Ruggiero each had two hits in the win.

As FSU goes for the 3-game sweep of the Golden Bears on Sunday, it will arrive with a record of 27-4 and 5-0 in ACC play. The Seminoles have won 16 straight games. After a Tuesday tilt with North Florida, they’ll hit the road for the first time in ACC play as they begin a 3-game series at Clemson on Friday.
