Seminole Sunday Sauce — April 19, 2026: FSU Men’s Tennis Goes 2-1 at ACC Tournament, Falls in Quarterfinals

Highly ranked to open the season, Florida State men’s tennis didn’t have the year it wanted to. At the ACC Tournament in Cary, N.C. this week, however, the Seminoles showed they were still a force to be reckoned with.

The No. 13 seed in the tournament, FSU went 2-1 at the ACC Tournament. FSU’s run ultimately came to an end with a hard-fought loss to No. 17 Stanford, 4-3.

FSU opened the tournament on Wednesday with a 4-1 win over 12th-seeded Louisville. After the Seminoles took the doubles point, Mohammad Alkotop, Corey Craig and Azariah Rusher each won in straight sets in singles. Craig sealed the win with a 7-6, 6-2 victory over Louisville’s Cristian Matei OnoFrei.

The biggest upset of the tournament came on Thursday as the Seminoles rallied for a thrilling 4-3 win over fifth-seeded NC State. Trailing 3-1, FSU pulled off a stunning comeback with three straight 3-set victories.

After Erik Schiessl and Alkotop pulled out 3-set victories to draw FSU even, Gabor Hornung outlasted the Wolfpack’s Darius Florin in a 7-6, 4-6, 7-5 thriller.

Against fourth-seeded Stanford, the Seminoles showed no quit. After the Cardinals took the doubles point and the first singles point, FSU drew even with straight-set wins from Rusher and Schiessl.

Stanford retook the lead, but Hornung pulled off a comeback win in three sets over Jagger Leach to tie it up. With all eyes on Court 1, FSU’s Luis Felipe Miguel came up short to Alexander Razeghi in a 3-set affair.

Despite the strong performance in Cary, the loss to Stanford will likely end FSU’s season. The Seminoles leave the tournament with an even 14-14 record.
