Notable Seminole Birthday: FSU Hoops Legend Tim Pickett Turns 45

Born April 18, 1980, former Florida State men’s basketball All-ACC guard Tim Pickett celebrates his 45th birthday today!

A junior college transfer from what's now Indian River State College, Tim Pickett spent two seasons with the Florida State men's basketball program from 2002 to 2004. The first All-ACC performer for legendary head coach Leonard Hamilton, Pickett was the Seminoles' leading scorer each season and one of the nation's best on-the-ball defenders.

As a junior during the 2002-03 campaign, Pickett earned second-team All-ACC honors after averaging better than 17 points per game, nearly six rebounds and an ACC-leading 2.8 steals per game -- good for seventh nationally. As a senior, Pickett helped FSU have its first winning season in six years, finishing 19-14 with four wins over nationally ranked opponents. The season culminated in an NIT appearance.

Pickett averaged 16.5 points per game while shooting 41% from deep to go with 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per contest. Pickett was recognized as a first-team All-ACC selection and a member of the ACC All-Defensive Team. The Associated Press named the Daytona Beach native an honorable mention All-American.

Selected in the second round of the 2004 NBA Draft by the New Orleans Hornets, Pickett would enjoy a professional career spanning more than 15 years in the NBA, NBA G League, France, Italy, Bulgaria, China, Puerto Rico, Israel, Venezuela, the Philippines, Turkey, Argentina and Mexico. Inducted into the FSU Hall of Fame in 2022, Pickett holds two of the five highest single-season totals in FSU history when it comes to made 3-pointers and two of the four highest for steals.

Despite just two seasons in Tallahassee, Pickett ranks sixth in FSU history in made 3-pointers (194), seventh in free throw percentage (.814) and 11th in steals (164). His 2.8 steals per gave average ranks second in program history.
