Seminole Sunday Sauce — May 31, 2026: FSU Baseball Faces Elimination at Tallahassee Regional

After having Saturday’s contest suspended by weather, Florida State baseball will need four wins over the next two days to advance to the NCAA Super Regional round.

FSU opened the double-elimination Tallahassee Regional on Friday with a heartbreaking 6-5 loss to St. John’s. Up 5-2 through seven innings, FSU allowed four runs over the final two frames.

After homering to start the 3-run rally in the eighth inning, Dylan Fitzsimmons scored the winning run in the ninth on Jayder Raifstanger’s go-ahead RBI single in the ninth for the Red Storm. A wild pitch and a passed ball allowed the only two Red Storm runs to score in the eighth.

Prior to the ninth, FSU never trailed. John Stuetzer led off the contest with a solo home run in the bottom of the first. After Adam Agresti answered with a solo homer of his own for St. John’s in the second, Gabe Fraser put FSU back in front with another solo shot in the bottom of the second.

Brayden Dowd had a nice day at the plate for FSU, finishing 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Fraser, Carter McCulley and Cal Fisher each had two hits in the loss. Fitzsimmons, who entered the game due to injury in the second, finished 3-for-4 and a triple shy of the cycle with two runs scored for St. John’s. John Abraham took the loss for the Seminoles.

In Saturday’s elimination game against Coastal Carolina, FSU was only able to get a little more than five innings in. FSU leads 2-1 in a contest that will resume on Sunday.

With standout pitchers Wes Mendes and Carmeron Flukey’s days done early due to the weather, FSU tied the game on Nathan Cmeyla’s RBI double in the fourth. Fisher’s solo home run in the fifth gave the Seminoles the lead.

The contest will resume at 11 a.m. ET on Sunday. Should FSU hold on, it would need three straight wins, in some combination, over Northern Illinois and St. John’s. Those two teams will play in the winners’ bracket later on Sunday.
