Seminole Sunday Sauce — June 21, 2026: FSU Legend Posey to be Inducted Into College Baseball Hall of Fame
After a legendary collegiate and Major League Baseball career, former Florida State catcher Buster Posey is bound for another Hall of Fame. Posey was announced this week as a member of the 2027 College Baseball Hall of Fame class.
Inducted into the FSU Hall of Fame in 2018, Posey spent three years with the Florida State baseball program from 2006 to 2008. A model of versatility, Posey pitched, caught and played infield during his time in Tallahassee. In fact, Posey once played all nine positions in a single game for the Seminoles.
A native of Georgia, Posey was recognized as a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball in 2006 after hitting .346 with four home runs, nine steals and 48 RBIs. He was also named to the ACC All-Tournament after helping FSU go 3-1 in the conference tournament. Posey earned first-team All-ACC and first-team All-America honors in each of his final two seasons.
After batting .382 with three home runs and 65 RBIs as a sophomore, Posey won ACC Player of the Year and the Dick Howser Trophy and Golden Spikes Award as the nation's best player in 2008. He was also named to the ACC All-Tournament team and claimed the Johnny Bench Award -- now renamed in Posey's honor -- as the nation's top catcher.
For the year, Posey hit an FSU-record .463 with 26 home runs and 93 RBIs. Posey also finished with the second-best slugging (.879) and on-base percentage (.566) for a season in program history. On the mound, the Consensus All-American made nine appearances, finishing with a 1.17 ERA and a team-leading six saves as FSU made its first College World Series appearance in eight years.
Selected with the No. 5 overall pick in the Major League Baseball Draft by the San Francisco Giants, Posey spent 13 years in the big leagues with San Francisco. The 2010 National League Rookie of the Year and 2012 MVP, Posey was a 7-time All-Star and helped the Giants win three World Series.
Posey ranks third in career batting average (.398) at FSU, seventh in on-base percentage (.487), eighth in hits (298) and 10th in RBIs (206). To conclude his career, he reached base safely in an FSU-record 67 straight games.
Posey will be formally inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame on Feb. 11, 2027. He’ll join Dick Howser, J.D. Drew, Mike Martin, Terry Kennedy, Danny Litwhiler, Mike Fuentes, Gene Ammann and Mike Loynd among legendary Seminoles in the Hall of Fame.
