Seminole Sunday Sauce — July 12, 2026: Former FSU All-American Messick Named an MLB All-Star
For the second year in a row, Florida State will be represented at the Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
On Sunday, Cleveland Guardians pitcher Parker Messick was named an All-Star for the American League. A 6-foot-0, 225-pound left-hander, Messick enters the Mid-Summer Classic with an 8-5 record and 2.73 ERA.
A native of Plant City, Messick spent three seasons with the FSU baseball program from 2020 to 2022. Following the COVID-shortened 2020 season, Messick earned first-team All-ACC honors in each of his final two seasons.
As a redshirt freshman in 2021, Messick was 8-2 with a 3.10 ERA and 126 strikeouts in 90 innings to earn ACC Pitcher of the Year and ACC Freshman of the Year recognition. He was also named a Freshman All-American and a third-team All-American by multiple organizations.
In 2022, Messick went 7-5 with a 3.38 ERA and 144 strikeouts in less than 99 innings, earning first-team All-America recognition from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. The owner of the highest strikeout-to-walk ratio in FSU history, Messick was selected by Cleveland in the second round of the 2022 MLB Draft. He made his MLB debut last August.
The 2026 MLB All-Star Game takes place on Tuesday in Philadelphia. Former FSU and current Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh went 1-for-2 for the American League in last season’s All-Star Game.
