Seminole Sunday Sauce — Aug. 16, 2026: FSU Soccer Opens Athletics Year with Shutout of Stetson

It took a while for reigning national champion Florida State soccer to get clicking on Thursday night. That all changed in the second half, however, as the fourth-ranked Seminoles rolled past Stetson in the season opener in DeLand, 4-0.

The first three goals came within a 10-minute span. After Sam Erbach got the scoring started in the 58th minute, Tanner Strickland converted a penalty kick to stretch the lead to 2-0.

Strickland and Ashley Henderson then assisted on Joelle Jung’s goal in the 68th minute. Peyton McGovern put the exclamation point on the win in the 82nd minute. Olivia Page added an assist in the win.

Despite a slow start, the Seminoles dominated statistically. FSU finished with 18 shots to just two for the Hatters.

FSU will remain on the road on Sunday night as it heads further south to take on Florida International. FSU plays its home opener on Thursday against Florida Atlantic.
