Notable Seminole Birthday: 2007 ACC Baseball Player of the Year Thomas Turns 40
Born July 10, 1986, former Florida State infielder Thomas Thomas Jr. enjoyed one of the best seasons in program history in 2007. Thomas celebrates his 40th birthday today!
Tony Thomas was a 3-year starter for Florida State. Though solid over his first two seasons, Thomas emerged as one of the best players in the country as a junior in 2007. The ACC Player of the Year and a Consensus All-American, Thomas batted .430 with 11 home runs, 50 RBIs and 31 stolen bases.
A finalist for the Golden Spikes Award, Dick Howser Trophy and Brooks Wallace Award, Thomas was recognized by Rivals and Collegiate Baseball as the National Player of the Year. He became the first FSU player to register 30 doubles, 100 hits and 30 stolen bases in a single season.
Selected by the Chicago Cubs in the third round of the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft, Thomas never reached the big leagues but spent 13 seasons in professional baseball. A inductee into the FSU Hall of Fame in 2017, Thomas' .430 average as junior ranks fifth in program history.
His 33 doubles that season ranks second only to Jeremy Morris' 36 in 1996. Thomas' 14 career triples is good for fourth in FSU history.
