Notable Seminole Birthday: Cindy Schofield, FSU’s First Soccer HOF, Turns 45
Born June 13, 1981, Cindy Schofield was one of the first stars for Florida State soccer. The FSU legend celebrates her 45th birthday today!
A native of Lakeland, Schofield arrived in Tallahassee as the all-time leading scorer in Florida high school history. Schofield spent four years as part of the Florida State soccer program from 1999 to 2002. Schofield was named first-team All-ACC and earned All-America recognition in each of her final two seasons.
After finishing with three goals and an assist in 1999, Schofield helped the Seminoles reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time ever in 2000. That year, she recorded five goals and seven assists as FSU reached the Sweet 16.
As a junior in 2001, Schofield garnered honorable mention All-America honors, finishing with 17 goals and eight assists as FSU picked up a then program-record 15 wins. The 17 goals and 42 points were both single-season records at the time.
As a senior, Schofield garnered third-team All-American recognition. She finished with 15 goals and six assists as FSU made a return trip to the Sweet 16.
In 2013, Schofield became the first soccer player inducted into the FSU Hall of Fame. Schofield has since coached soccer at the youth and high school levels. The all-time scoring leader in program history at the time of her graduation, Schofield returned to FSU to earn her master's degree.
Schofield remains second in FSU history in career goals (40) and points (102). She ranks sixth in shots (207), fourth in shots on goal (111). Schofield remains tied atop the career leaderboard with four made penalty kicks.
