Seminole Sunday Sauce — June 8, 2025: FSU Baseball One Win From Omaha

Whether Florida State baseball will head home or to Omaha will be decided on Sunday night. The ninth-seeded Seminoles and No. 8 national seed Oregon State will play the decisive game of the Corvallis Super Regional after splitting the first two.

The Seminoles advanced to the Super Regional by sweeping the Tallahassee Regional. FSU clinched the regional on Sunday night with a 5-2 win over Mississippi State.

Trailing 2-0 through six and a half innings, FSU drew even in the seventh on a 2-run home run from Cal Fisher. Max Williams put FSU ahead for good in the eighth with a 2-run single. Myles Bailey followed with an RBI single of his own.

Wes Mendes gave the Seminoles eight solid innings from the mound. Bailey, Fisher and Chase Williams each finished with two hits in the win.

The Corvallis Super Regional began in heartbreaking fashion as FSU let a 3-run lead in the ninth inning slip away. Oregon State walked it off in the 10th on an RBI single by AJ Singer to win 5-4.

Bailey’s solo home run in the sixth had given FSU a 2-1 lead. Max Williams and Brody Delamielleure added RBI singles in each of the next two innings to increase the lead to 4-1. The Beavers were able to get three runs in the ninth off FSU reliever Joe Charles. With Oregon State down to its last strike, Jacob Krieg lined the tying 2-run single to left field.

The defeat squandered a stellar effort on the mound by Joey Volini, who allowed just a run in 6.2 innings. Hunter Carns finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for the Seminoles. Fisher also had two hits. Drew Faurot scored two runs in the loss.

FSU bounced back with a 3-1 win on Saturday night. Jamie Arnold gave the Seminoles 6.2 strong innings after a slow start.

The lone Oregon State run came in the first. FSU drew even in the third on Max Williams’ RBI single.

The score remained 1-1 until the seventh when Gage Harrelson came through with the go-ahead single. Jaxson West drew a bases-loaded walk in the eighth to cap the scoring.

Max Williams had two of the six FSU hits. Peyton Prescott threw two innings of scoreless relief to earn the save.

The teams will play the decisive game of the Super Regional at 9 p.m. ET on Sunday. The winner will open the College World Series against the winner of the Louisville Regional between Louisville and Miami.
