Seminole Sunday Sauce — Nov. 30, 2025: FSU Soccer Bound for College Cup
For the fifth time in six years, Florida State soccer is headed to the College Cup. The Seminoles notched a pair of wins this week to reach Kansas City.
In its first NCAA Tournament road match since 2017, FSU took care of business in the Sweet 16 on Sunday. The third-seeded Seminoles downed No. 2 seed Georgetown in the nation’s capital, 3-1.
Mimi Van Zanten scored late in the first half to put the Seminoles ahead for good with her first goal of the year. Nyanya Touray doubled the lead early in the second half, but the Hoyas refused to go quietly. Mary Cochran was able to cut the deficit in half for Georgetown in the 58th minute, but Jaida McGrew’s first goal of the season in the 78th minute quelled any hope of a comeback.
In addition to her first goal, Van Zanten added an assist. Jordynn Dudley and Peyton Nourse also tallied assists in the win. Kate Ockene finished with four saves for the Seminoles.
FSU punched its ticket to the College Cup with a 4-1 win over Ohio State in the Elite Eight in Tallahassee, 4-1. The Buckeyes were coming off an upset of top-seeded Notre Dame.
Dudley set the tone with two first-half goals as FSU took a 2-0 lead to the locker room. Ohio State, however, was able to cut it in half early in the second on a goal from Amanda Schlueter in the 50th minute.
It took the Seminoles less than 90 seconds to answer as Yuna McCormack found the net. Wrianna Hudson put the exclamation point on the win in the 85th minute.
Dudley, Touray, Taylor Suarez, Sophia Nguyen and Nawreen Ahmad each added assists in the win. FSU dominated with 25 shots to 14 for the Buckeyes. The Seminoles also held a 13-4 advantage when it came to shots on goal. Ockene finished with three saves.
Now two wins away from a fifth national championship, FSU is one of three ACC teams in the national semifinals. The Seminoles will take on TCU on Friday in the College Cup. The winner will meet Duke or Stanford for the national title.
