Seminole Sunday Sauce — Sept. 27, 2026: FSU Volleyball Opens ACC Play with Rivalry Win
Although it did notch a top-15 win, the non-conference didn’t go quite as Florida State volleyball would have hoped. ACC play, however, couldn’t have started much sweeter.
On Wednesday night, the Seminoles began conference play on the right foot with a thrilling 3-2 win over Miami at Tully Gymnasium. FSU took the match by taking the last two sets.
After FSU rolled to a 25-14 win in the opening set, the Hurricanes bounced back with consecutive 25-22 wins. That forced the Seminoles to dig deep.
In the fourth set, Miami had set point with a 24-23 lead. FSU was able to stay alive and force a decisive fifth with three straight points.
The Seminoles fell behind 5-2 in the decisive fifth set but used a 6-2 run to take the lead and never looked back. FSU outscored the Hurricanes 13-6 to close the final set — a 15-11 win.
For FSU, Kyleene Filimaua had a monster night, leading the team with 18 kills, 15 digs and three service aces. Sofia Moss also had a double-double with 16 kills and 12 digs.
Delaney Ewing and Bailey Higgins each led FSU with seven blocks. Emma Lilo recorded 28 assists in the win. For Miami, Denitsa Angelova led the way with 10 kills. Gaby Arroyo recorded a match-high 23 digs.
With the win, FSU improved to 6-5 and earned its first ACC win under first-year head coach Lindsay Allman. The Seminoles will go for the season sweep of the Hurricanes on Sunday in Coral Gables.
