Notable Seminole Birthday: FSU Football Legendary Signal Caller Gary Huff Turns 75

Born April 27, 1951, Gary Huff was a record-setting quarterback and a Heisman Trophy contender for Florida State football. He celebrates his 75th birthday today!

Out of Tampa, Huff was a 2-year starter for the Seminoles in 1971 and 1972. After earning All-America honorable mention honors in 1971, Huff was an All-American in 1972, finishing 10th in the Heisman Trophy voting.

Huff left FSU as the program's all-time leading passer. Despite the game becoming more aerial over the years, Huff remains eighth all-time at FSU in passing yards (6,378) and sixth in passing touchdowns (52). His 25 touchdown passes in 1972 tied a program record and lasted for 21 years before being surpassed by Heisman Trophy winner Charlie Ward.

Selected in the second round of the 1972 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears, Huff spent six years in the league with the Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In 1977, Huff quarterbacked Tampa Bay to its first-ever win after the Buccaneers lost their first 26 games as a franchise.

Huff was inducted into the FSU Hall of Fame in 1983.
